SUMMARY OF POSITION

Position’s primary goal is to help the candidate learn the process of testing and failure analysis of Aerospace Ignition Systems using various electrical measurement instruments, such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, ampere meters, AC & DC power supplies, function generators and various test loads. The Exciter Technician Co-op will also utilize various environmental test equipment, such as high temperature ovens, thermal cycle chambers and vibration test equipment, to perform various operational test on Ignition Systems.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Handle all aspects of in process and final acceptance testing of product to required Champion, and customer standards, using electrical test equipment
  • Perform failure analysis on any failed units and work with engineering to identify root cause and suggest corrective actions
  • Perform maintenance on test equipment and perform limited trouble shooting/repair of environmental test equipment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited program in the Technical field of study (i.e. Industrial Electronics, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or Engineering Technology) with a concentration in Electronics
  • 2+ years of experience with the assembly and test of mechanical and electrical assemblies preferred
  • Ability to competently use test equipment (Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Power Supplies and Function Generators)
  • Ability to develop basic PLC programs and setup/program temperature controllers
  • Demonstrated ability to solder surface mount components at the PCB level
  • Experience with electronic components at the circuit board level (i.e. timers, comparators, resistors, diodes, capacitors and logic chips)

SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position is responsible for the application of engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products.  Functions performed will include determining the machines, equipment, tools and sequence of operations necessary to perform production operations as well as advising and assisting vendors with process problems in connection with tools, gauges, and equipment designed for use in manufacturing.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Handle day-to-day problems with processes, products, equipment, tooling and documentation.
  2. Generate and revise tool lists, and setup documentation for production and development parts.
  3. Investigate and complete assigned Corrective Action Requests.

  7. Write Standard Operating Instructions (SOI) as required.
  8. Design tooling required for production and inspection operations. Estimate design and fabrication times and costs for new tools and production parts.
  9. Investigate, develop, justify and compile costs and savings for new equipment/process implementation.
  10. Acquire new equipment/processes and be the sole coordinator, responsible for the project to make sure costs are met, schedules are maintained and the systems function as designed.
  11. Develop new processing techniques to reduce non-conformance and production costs.
  12. Interact with customers during audits, product investigations and presentations.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline required (Mechanical or Industrial preferred).

Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, problem-solving, multitasking skills, as well as patience and a positive attitude are required.

SolidWorks or AutoCAD experience is required, both are preferred.

Demonstrated experience in managing capital equipment projects that include developing machine specifications for custom equipment, managing machine builders and contractors to achieve a successful runoff and entry into production.

Responsible for creating design specifications for a variety of electromechanical components, primarily including but not limited to designs requiring magnetic field mapping and analysis, modeling of electromagnetic systems and incorporating physics of converting mechanical energy to electrical energy using magnetic principles. Analyzes and solves design problems using engineering and mathematical principles. Makes design changes and prepares preliminary sketches for guidance of Designers. Routine tasks include reviewing design requirements and evaluating existing or new designs theoretically and with test data for verification of compliance. The Senior Buyer is responsible for all facets of procuring assigned materials to support production requirements for the plant and will interact with multiple functions across the company in order to service internal customers.  This position will also participate in projects and special assignments as required.

  • Responsible for all facets of procuring assigned materials, including issuing purchase orders, reviewing delivery requirements and expedites/deferring as required, and supporting the production schedule. The Senior Buyer is accountable for part availability, quality, and price.
  • Utilizes material scheduling techniques to manage targeted inventory levels.
  • Prepares reports for managing supplier performance, material ordering, expedites and defers, inventory management, and shortages to support production requirements.

Additional tasks involve maintaining design control integrity of the drawings.  The successful candidate must be able to understand customer requirements and communicate these requirements clearly and concisely to both internal and external shareholders.  The successful candidate must be able to understand existing designs and technical aspects related to development of new designs that meet existing and future industry needs within time constraints established by management, while simultaneously providing support for Production Department needs as a part of a cross functional team with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Purchasing.  The successful candidate must be able to communicate with customers, representing the Company with the highest degree of professionalism and develop and maintain those critical engineering relationships.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Achieve program and productivity goals directed by Management.
  • Develop and maintain critical customer relationships with customer engineering teams.
  • Review, understand and support customer program requirements for existing and new designs. Tasks include: Technical Proposals, Detail Design activities, Reliability Analyses, Preliminary/Critical Design Reviews, Qualification Test Plan Development, and Returned Material Analysis.
  • Develop and implement designs that meet the design intent with analytical or physical test substantiation that establishes compliance with all Customer/ Regulatory Specifications and internal requirements.
  • Adapts existing designs to new customer requirements and applications.
  • Works closely with customer representatives and works within customer and FAA standards and requirements.
  • Provide on-site technical support for fielded production or prototype designs.
  • Follow existing guidelines, procedures and priorities of work for Product Engineering tasks. Priorities of work include: a) OEM Program Management, b) Productivity Projects, c) New Technology, d) Departmental Projects
  • Establishes test requirements not previously specified by the customer or governmental requirements and develops and directs the testing of new product prototypes to verify product reliability and conformance to specifications.
  • Assists the Manufacturing Engineering department in regard to product redesign to resolve product or production difficulties.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Educational requirement for this position is a BSME or MSME.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in product engineering field is required. General knowledge of turbine engine and reciprocating/internal-combustion engines is desired. Experience within the General Aviation industry also desired. Proficiency in technical writing and communication is required.
  • SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation (Desired)
  • FEA tools (Desired)
  • Experience with electromechanical design (Desired)
